Potsdam is Germany's number one science and research location. With the construction of the optical telegraph station in the Telegrafenberg in 1832 the site construction began. Numerous research facilities followed from 1874. The roots of astrophysical research lie here. The GeoForschungsZentrum, Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics, Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research have all settled here and inspire visitors both in terms of content and architecture.
